The Bridge, Dartford
Situated next to the QEII Bridge close to the south side of the River Thames, The Bridge was the first major regeneration project to start in the Thames Gateway. The project comprises a 264 acre mixed use development including 1.5m square feet of business development and 1,500 new homes with a range of innovative facilities such as a ‘primary school of the future’ and Fastrack public transport system.
Barry Chinn Associates were a member of the infrastructure team and responsible for the design of the highway landscape and extensive network of footpath / cycleway routes through greenway / blueway ecological corridors.
The highways and Fastrack route amounted to 7km in length. The main influences on the landscape design were inclusion of ecological mitigation for protected species, protection of many significant mature trees and integration of the surface water drainage scheme to provide habitat and site features.
Since completion of the infrastructure in late 2007 input has continued with the phased commercial development including innovation centre, management centre, offices and warehousing.
