Wm Morrison's Foodstore - Weybridge
Barry Chinn Associates were appointed to prepare the external works design for the proposed Morrison’s food store and associated public realm Monument Hill, Weybridge.
Due to the site’s proximity to the local Monument Green Conservation area and its links with the local high street, it was important that the design of the store and public realm space enhanced and complimented the local character of the area.
The project Architect prepared a design which shows great sympathy with the historical vernacular of the town, in terms of both scale and massing with the food store façade being split into five architectural elements, reducing the impact of the development fronting onto Monument Hill.
To continue the sympathetic design into the wider landscape, Barry Chinn Associates provided a landscape scheme which took quality materials, such as Yorkstone paving and granite kerb setts, to emphasise access to the building and provide passive space for customers and passers-by to linger for a chat or rest. To further enhance the street scene a single row of semi mature Small Leaved Lime Trees Tilia cordate ‘Green Spire’ were introduced which will provide a robust scheme in character with the area and provide uninterrupted views down Monument Hill to the monument.
